NR19-05 BCSO Employee Injured in Off-Duty Incident

At approximately 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning, February 17, 2019, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office of an incident that occurred in Jacksonville. The information received concerned an employee of the BCSO who had been involved in a shooting. The employee was off-duty visiting Jacksonville when the incident occurred. 

The employee was transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery for injuries sustained. The employee is currently in serious, but stable condition. All of the individuals involved in the incident have been identified and it is currently being actively investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to determine the facts and circumstances. Upon conclusion of the JSO’s criminal investigation, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a Professional Standards inquiry of the incident. 

At this time, the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the names of the participants involved in this incident.
