NR 23-29 Sheriff’s Office searching for missing windsurfer
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the search for a missing windsurfer in the Banana River near the area of Kelly Park in Merritt Island. The search began yesterday evening at approximately 7:00 p.m., after the Sheriff’s Office received a report that a male who had been windsurfing in the Banana River and had not returned to Kelly Park. Deputies found the male’s vehicle still located at the park. The missing man is identified as 60-year-old, Greggory Johnston of Merritt Island. Mr. Johnston is 5’11 inches tall, stocky build with gray hair and was last seen wearing black in color shorts.
Law enforcement personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Coast Guard were involved in the search, which resumed this morning at daybreak where the board and windsurfing sail were recovered near the eastern shore of the river, across from Kelly Park. The search is continuing for Mr. Johnston.
