NR 23-27 Victim identified in death investigation
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is identifying the male who was shot and killed in unincorporated Cocoa, on Friday, August 11, 2023. The decedent is identified as 58-year-old, Franklin Orwig Sr. of Cocoa.
The investigation began when deputies responded to a residence on Burgess Avenue at approximately 9:45 p.m., Friday evening, after the Sheriff’s Office was advised that a male had been shot. Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim who was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation is ongoing as agents from the Homicide and Crime Scene Units are conducting interviews and examining evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that the persons involved in the incident were known to each other and there is no danger to the general public. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
