NR 22-42 Barricaded Subject in Viera taken into custody
Earlier today, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39-year-old, Patrick Kelly of Viera. Kelly, a member of the Cocoa Police Department, who was off duty at the time, was taken into custody after barricading himself in his residence following a domestic incident. An arrest warrant was issued charging Kelly with Aggravated Assault/Domestic Violence with a Deadly Weapon and Discharging a Firearm on Residential Property. He was transported to the Brevard County Jail with a No Bond status.
Deputies responded to a residence on Framura Lane in Viera at approximately 10:30 p.m. on December 27, 2022, after the victim contacted the Sheriff’s Office advising Kelly had threatened her with a firearm and was experiencing an emotional crisis. The victim, who was able to flee from the residence, stated Kelly threatened to harm her, as well as himself and any responding members of law enforcement. She further advised Kelly was armed and had barricaded himself inside the residence.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team responded and ultimately negotiated Kelly to exit the residence and surrender without further incident. During the incident, Kelly discharged multiple rounds within the residence. No injuries were sustained by the subject or members of the Sheriff’s Office during the incident.
