NR 21-45 Update – Cape Canaveral Death Investigation
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is identifying the male who was pronounced deceased yesterday evening after being found unresponsive in the surf near Jetty Park. The male is identified as 69-year-old, Marvin Kumley of Oregon.
The investigation thus far has determined that at approximately 5:30 p.m. yesterday, deputies responded to the beach near Jetty Park in reference to a missing swimmer. Mr. Kumley, who was visiting with family from Oregon, was swimming in the surf when family members lost sight of him. He was located unresponsive in the water approximately 100 yards offshore and transported to a local hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced deceased.
Agents are awaiting the results of an autopsy by the Brevard County Medical Examiner for a determination on Mr. Kumley’s exact cause of death.
