NR 21-44 Sheriff’s Office Conducting Death Investigation
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into a drowning that occurred in the ocean in the city of Cape Canaveral. At approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies responded to the beach near Jetty Park in reference to a missing swimmer. The 69-year-old male, who was visiting with family from Oregon, was swimming in the surf when family members lost sight of him. The male was located unresponsive in the water approximately 100 yards offshore and transported to a local hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Homicide Unit of the Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation. The victim will be taken to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
