NR 20-02 Sheriff’s Office Receives Program to Address Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the City of Cape Canaveral has received the “High Visibility Enforcement” program. Funded by the Florida Department of Transportation and the University of North Florida, the program will provide resources to address pedestrian and bicycle safety efforts in the City of Cape Canaveral and unincorporated Avon by the Sea communities.
The Sheriff’s Office and City of Cape Canaveral sought the program after recent statistics reflected that Brevard County is ranked among the top 20% for pedestrian and bicyclist injuries and fatalities in the State of Florida.
Deputies from the Cape Canaveral Precinct will increase patrol efforts aimed at targeting unsafe behaviors of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists in the area through education, awareness and enforcement activities to seek compliance while making our community safer.
