NR 19-23 Deputy Involved Shooting
On June 4, 2019, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Avenida De La Vista in unincorporated Indialantic. As the deputy approached the residence he was ambushed by the suspect who was armed with a rifle. The deputy was struck multiple times, however was able to return fire, neutralizing the threat.
The deputy was transported to a local hospital in serious condition where he is currently undergoing emergency medical treatment for his injuries.
The investigation is ongoing as Agents are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence at the scene.
At this time, the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the names of the deputy or decedent involved in this incident. We will provide updates and further details as they become available.
The Deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave as is customary in officer involved shootings.
