NR 18-18 Deputy Arrested for Child Neglect
A Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested this morning along with his live-in girlfriend. Deputy Nicholas Worthy and Rachel Trexler were both charged with Child Neglect, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana under 20 grams, and Possession of Paraphernalia. Both are being detained at the Brevard County Jail on a $5,000 Bond.
The arrest occurred after deputies responded to the couple’s address in Rockledge at approximately 8:30 p.m. yesterday evening in response to a report of screams and shots being fired. After Worthy and Trexler refused to make contact or communicate with the deputies, a search warrant was then obtained and ultimately executed shortly after 6:00 a.m. this morning. Upon entry, Worthy and Trexler along with their 2-year-old child were located uninjured.
The drug charges are in reference to narcotics that were discovered in the residence and a vehicle. The child neglect charges stem from narcotics, ammunition and firearms being kept in areas that were accessible to the child, as well as the overall deplorable and unsanitary condition of the residence. Evidence supporting the complaints received such as; spent casings and holes in the walls consistent with bullet holes were located and documented within the residence.
Deputy Worthy has been terminated from the agency.
Deputy Worthy began his employment with the Sheriff’s Office in August 2012 and was assigned to East Precinct Patrol.
